The Village of Hastings-on Hudson is situated on the east bank of the scenic Hudson River, opposite the Palisades cliffs and encompasses 2.9 square miles. When incorporated in 1879, Hastings' primary industry was stone quarrying giving way to development of the century-long era of heavy industry on the Village's waterfront, which came to an end in 1975. Once the home to the famed Hudson River School of Painting artist Jasper F. Cropsey, which is currently a museum, Hastings has recently garnished the reputation of attracting artistically inclined residents and the emergence of various art galleries, unique boutiques and an overall eclectic culture.
